Brie Larson Wore My Best-Kept Secret for Looking Rich

I’m not rich, which means I’ll keep manifesting money wherever I can. But TBH, I also don’t need much to be happy. I live in the best city in the world (NYC!), have the best partner, and am blessed with beautiful experiences and adventures I could only have dreamed of when I was a little girl. That said, we all want to look and feel bougie every now and then, like splurging on a nice dinner or getting that designer bag you’ve been eyeing. But, if I want to look rich without spending big bucks, like I would on Chanel or Gucci, I have a style hack—and Brie Larson just wore it.

Larson looked like a dreamy garden fairy when she stepped out over the weekend for an event in Italy. Of course she was in Italy, like everyone and their mother (and like I will be in just a few days). And, of course she looked the epitome of summer-y perfection in the simple hero staple that everyone should have on hand this season: a silk slip dress

It's nice! It’s versatile! And it’s so expensive-looking, even if it didn’t break the bank, like this Steve Madden number that I’m making mine, stat.

The actress’s midi slip dress had dainty lace along the neckline, which added dimension to the otherwise simple and shiny silk fabric. Not to mention, lace is the definition of ethereal, so the addition of the accents gave the dress a luxe, dreamy touch. The midi also had subtle seam detailing along the front, plus thick straps and a breezy hemline. So chic! She rounded out the look with raffia kitten heels that were nearly impossible to see. In fact, I almost thought she wasn’t wearing shoes, a.k.a., more proof that the squint-to-see shoe trend is blowing up for summer 2024.

Now, here’s the thing with a silky dress: It looks so rich thanks to its shiny, luxe, elegant fabric. And, it doesn’t take much to dress it up, either, as it’s pretty much a standalone piece that, as most pieces, benefits from some accessories and fun shoes. But frankly, that’s all it needs—and you can also forgo everything and simply wear said dress and look (not to mention feel!) like a million bucks. Trust me: Put on a silk dress and you’ll immediately see what I mean.

I’m packing a slip midi dress in abundance for my upcoming Italian vacation because it’s easy, breezy, beautiful, and expensive-looking. See some styles I’m eyeing below, like that J.Crew find that's basically a steal.
