Mindy Kaling Welcomed Her Third Child

Mindy Kaling's family got a brand-new addition—and the actress shared the good news on Instagram with a sweet message. Kaling is already mother to a 6-year-old daughter named Katherine (though she goes by "Kit") and son a 3-year-old son named Spencer. Back in February, however, the kiddos welcomed a new sibling, a little sister named Anne. In keeping with her usual M.O., Kaling's photo carousel didn't show her children's faces, but did give sweet glimpses into her pregnancy and Anne's delivery. Today is Kaling's birthday, and she called Anne's arrival the "best birthday present." In another example of her keeping her private life extremely private, Kaling didn't share who Anne's father is.

"In late February I gave birth to my daughter, Anne. She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined. When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life," she captioned the images. "I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline. Thanks for all the birthday wishes!"

Speaking about keeping her children's faces off her feed, Kaling previously told People, "I feel like I might as well wait until they get old enough so they can tell me if they want to be part of my social media or not."

"I'm like any parent where I'm proud of the things they do," she added. "I think they're so cute, and of course, I want other people to see it."

Her previous pregnancies were also a surprise. In 2017, when she was expecting for the first time, she told Sunday Today why she preferred to keep the news out of the headlines.

“It’s so unknown to me. I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, ‘Okay, it’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling,” she said.

In 2020, she dropped the news about baby no. 2's arrival during an interview with Stephen Colbert.

“I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange. But I gave birth to a baby boy on Sept. 3. This is news to a lot of people. It’s true!” Kaling said. “His name is Spencer. I forgot the most important part of it."
