Today didn't just mark Queen Camilla's 77th birthday—it was also the State Opening of Parliament, meaning the queen had to spend her big day working and, in the process, bringing a major piece of royal history out of the vault. Camilla and King Charles ushered in the official start of the new parliamentary session after the July 4 general election. The event came with plenty of pomp and circumstance, with a procession going from Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament and plenty of shimmering diamonds and historic jewels on both the queen and king.

Camilla brought the Diamond Diadem out again, complete with its 1,333 diamonds. She wore it last year, in November, for 2023's State Opening of Parliament, shining a spotlight on the piece's special place in history and the gravitas that it carries with it. The crown was created in 1820 for King George IV's coronation, and he wore it while traveling to Westminster Abbey for his crowning ceremony. Since then, every Queen of England has also worn the special crown, including Queen Adelaide, Queen Victoria, Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth (aka the Queen Mother), and Queen Elizabeth.

Charles wore the Imperial State Crown again and also brought out the Great Sword of State and the Cap of Maintenance for today's ceremony. People reports that the regalia got their own ride, the Queen Alexandra's State Coach, while Charles and Camilla rode in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach during today's procession. Camilla finished her look with a long-sleeved white gown with subtle tonal embroidery and multiple diamond necklaces. She carried a small silver clutch bag and topped it all off with the Diamond Diadem and a pair of dangling diamond earrings.
